PROGRAMS for 2007-2008

Summer Workshop for Associate Teachers
     June 25 - 27, 2008, Department of Physics & Astronomy, UC Irvine

The UC Irvine QuarkNet Center will be holding a Summer Workshop for associate teachers during Wednesday June 25 - Friday June 27, 2008. This is an exciting time for particle physics in view of the imminent commissioning of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in Switzerland. The purpose of the workshop is to bring together local high school teachers to learn about particle physics and possible ways to integrate particle physics into high school curriculum. In addition, teachers will have opportunities to present and exchange ideas on effective implementation of physics education. At the workshop, teachers will also learn to build a Cosmic Ray Detector as well as having hand-on experience with real particle physics data from LEP experiment through the Particle Physics Masterclass.

Application:

Application Form can be downloaded here: QN08 Application

Please fill out the application form and send it in by FAX to (949) 824-2174 Attn: Taren Aprati (QN Application). It can also be sent electronically to Mu-Chun Chen at muchunc [at] uci.edu. Applications received by June 6 will receive full consideration. Applicants interested in having the Cosmic Ray Detector for their schools should send in the application by May 25 and should send an email message as early as possible to Professor Chen at the above email address to indicate your interest. Accepted teachers will be notified by June 15.

For more information, please contact Professor Mu-Chun Chen via email at muchunc [at] uci.edu.
