Title: Intergalactic
magnetic fields, their origins, and unexplored connections with cosmic
rays
Abstract: The interconnections
between diffuse intergalactic-scale magnetic fields galactic black
holes and other galactic phenomena have become gradually clearer over the
past few years. I describe recent, relevant observations and some analysis,
which show that enormous amounts of gravitational energy are converted
with surprising efficiency into magnetic energy that is expelled into intergalactic
space. It is intriguing that, by 1950 galactic cosmic rays and magnetic
fields were understood to be interconnected on within our Galaxy. On extragalactic
scales we have not yet discovered if, or how, intergalactic magnetic fields
and ultra-high energy cosmic rays (UHECR‚s) might be interconnected. This
latter question will be briefly discussed.
